Another great day of sailing here on Biscayne Bay with winds building to 18mph from the Southeast. Zach and I enjoyed the planing conditions and we found ourselves comfortably leading the first two races of the day. We feel more than happy at the moment with our speed in the moderate conditions.
Disaster befell us in the last race of the day when our mast broke while leading the race to the first windward mark. A six hour rescue and complete re-rigging of our boat ensued as we checked our equipment for further damage. Luckily, we have a spare lower mast section and will be ready to race tomorrow morning. Big thanks to our coaches for their help salvaging!
Tomorrow, a cold front will be coming through the Miami area swinging the southerly breeze northward and bringing colder temperatures. We may have a few lighter and trickier races tomorrow before the big breeze comes through. For now, we enjoy a nine point lead.
Zach and I would like to thank the US Sailing Team Sperry Topsider, Hedgeye, and our friends and family for their support.
